  1. Experiments were carried out as described in Table 2. BrdU and KCNQ1 immunostaining images were used to count BrdU-labeled perigemmal cells in the circumvallate epithelium of PBS- or LPS-treated mice. The total numbers of BrdU-labeled perigemmal cells and the total areas of circumvallate epithelium counted, as well as the average numbers of BrdU-labeled cells/mm2 of circumvallate epithelium, are shown for each time point. These numbers were used to generate the time course curves shown in Figure 5A.
