Latent Bax mRNA levels are similar in the CNS of DBA/2J and BALB/cByJ mice. (A) An ethidium bromide-stained gel (reverse image) showing the RT-PCR products for Bax and S16 mRNAs at increasing numbers of cycles. Bax mRNA appears equally abundant in both strains of mice. This observation was confirmed with RNase Protection Assays (B). The level of Bax message was normalized to the level of S16 and this value was plotted for each mouse examined. No statistical difference was observed in the Bax mRNA abundance between the two strains (P = 0.98, t-test).
