Hematoxylin-eosin staining of coronal brain sections illustrates damaged, irregular and ruptured structure of the ependymal cell layer in AS-ODN (antisense-oligodeoxynucleotide against Gαi2) treated animals. Numerous dying cell populations float inside the ventricle and scarcely any cilia are present. The ependymal cell layer of ODN control (nonsense oligodeoxynucleotide) and saline control animals show a normal, uniform ependymal cell row with numerous cilia (arrowheads).
