Absence of cell death was noticed in the dentate gyrus (A, B, C, D) and (E, F, G, H) of sham operated rats during the different time points (1 day, 3 days, 1 week and 2 weeks). 1 day after adrenalectomy the rats showed no signs of neuronal cell death in the dentate gyrus (A’) and (E’). A progression of neuronal cell death was seen in the dentate gyrus 3 days (B’), 1 week (C’), and 2 weeks (D’) after adrenalectomy.
