Model of mTOR and MAPK mediated RBP-dependent expression control. Regulation of spatially restricted protein expression is guided by RBPs. mTOR and MAPK both regulate RBPs. The kinases influence the ability of RBPs to control RNA stability and translation thereby affecting protein levels at the synapse. Misregulation of mTOR and MAPK pathways have been linked to epilepsy. We propose that disturbed regulation of local protein expression causes overburden levels of epilepsy factors resulting in hyperexcitability and eventually seizures
