Systemic inflammation induced by LPS stimulates the expression of inflammatory cytokines and the chemokine MCP-1 in circumvallate and foliate epithelia. Quantitative real-time RT-PCR analysis of the expression of TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-6, IL-12, MCP-1, and IL-1β in nontaste (NT) and circumvallate and foliate-containing (CV+F) lingual epithelia 6 h after intraperitoneal injection of PBS or LPS. Relative gene expression levels were shown (fold). Expression in nontaste epithelium from the PBS group was arbitrarily set to 1. β-actin was used as the endogenous control gene for relative quantification.
